Over the course of thetwo centuries, the Shields and Ethridge families adapted to largertrends in upcountry Georgia agriculture, from the first crops oftobacco to the planting of cotton and grains, and then cattlegrazing.The story of the Farm begins when our nation was new at the end ofthe 18th century and continues today as we celebrate the historyand heritage of agriculture in northeast Georgia. Two hundred yearsof working the land, family growth, and technological progressshape what you see before you. From about 1899 to 1909 IraWashington Ethridge constructed these buildings, transforming thefarm into a bustling center of social and economic activity inJackson County, Georgia. Over the course of the five nights itbecomesincreasingly unclear where or when this passenger and hiscar havecome from. What does become clear however is that “normal”attemptsto repair and fix the car will not suffice.The word “Fehlerdiagnose” is German for “fault diagnosis,”theself-servicing diagnostic sections of most car-owner manualsthatpresent allegedly “simple” repair operations. Thesesectionsprovide logical approaches to trouble-shooting malfunctionsandpresuppose a certain infallibility of instructionallanguage.“Fehlerdiagnose,” on the other hand, is as much about“un-fixing”as it is fixing. Consisting of video projections, anaudio tourguide, and a 1985 Nissan Pulsar NX among otherthings“Fehlerdiagnose” considers what happens when instructionsandguides fail us and what becomes of us in those moments.
